Naked Cakes

I love the idea of a "naked cake", but they still need to have some sense of style. You can't just set an unfrosted cake on a platter and call it good. You have to dress it up a little!

Here's a simple idea using your favorite cookie cutter. I used a star to give it a patriotic theme for an upcoming barbecue.

Tools Needed:

Cake leveler or (CL-DLX)
Cake knife (Fat Daddio's CK-14)
​Spatula (Fat daddio's SPAT-8S)
Cookie cutter, any shape (Fat Daddio's CKC)

  1. Let cake cool completely. Using your cake leveler or cake knife, torte your cake.
  2. Use your spatula to spread filling to the bottom layer of cake. Add fruit, berries or even candy.
  3. Cut several shapes in to top layer of cake. Remove cake from cutters.
  4. Fill shaped holes with fruit, berries or candy.

Quick Tip: Decorate the shaped cake pieces and serve as well.
