Fool Them with a Sweet Treat

April Fools Day is nearly here. I really hope that my kids aren't reading my blog today, because I've got a surprise for them! I'm going to let them eat dessert for dinner! I'm planning on mixing everything up. Part of the day will include these adorable cupcakes that really look like hamburgers. Shhh, don't tell them. Here's how to make them...

Hamburger Cupcakes

Tools Needed:
Standard muffin pan (Fat Daddio's MFN)
Cupcake liners
Cooling Rack (Fat Daddio's Cooling Rack)
Pastry bag (Fat Daddio's Pastry Bags)
Large rose pastry tube (Fat Daddio's Pastry Tips)
Pastry brush
Small knife

Ingredients:
One box cake mix, vanilla
12 Store bought chocolate cookies
1/2 cup orange juice

1/4 cup sesame seeds
Buttercream frosting, divided into red and green. Here's a buttercream recipe if you need one.

  1. Place liners in cupcake cavities. Bake cupcakes according to recipe. Let cool completely on a cooling rack.
  2. Remove liners from cupcakes. Cut cupcakes open, to resemble a bun.
  3. Place chocolate cookie on cupcake, to resemble the hamburger.
  4. Pipe red frosting on cookie, to resemble a tomato.
  5. Pipe green frosting on top of red, to resemble lettuce.
  6. Add cupcake tops on top. Brush orange juice on top and sprinkle sesame seeds.
