Simple buttercream AKA American buttercream

Rubber spatula or spoon
1 cup butter (unsalted), room temperature
2½ cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the butter and sugar. Stir together with a rubber spatula or a spoon the butter has absorbed the sugar.
- Using your stand or hand held mixer, mix on high speed until smooth.
- Add the cream and vanilla and mix again to incorporate.
- Use immediately or cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge until needed. Store in the fridge for up to 1 week or for up to 2 months in the freezer in a freeze-proof container or bag. If you freeze it, let it thaw out overnight before using it.
